Recent Additions

For those of you not following me on twitter or facebook, I've been very busy in the New Year. Here's a list of recent shows I've added (all part of my epic This Is My Country project):

A Brief Pictorial Record of Waterville - A small show documenting some of the strange and wonderful events taking place in Waterville, ME. c.1910

Le Bal du Grand Cirque - An Arbus-ian assortment of strippers and drag queens (and Dick Van Dyke) descend upon a Manhatten hotel in 1960 for an evening of fun and frolic

Our Home - 17 years worth of photos of one tiny house in the suburbs of Buffalo

Away - A beautiful memorial album for a young man who died of tuberculosis in the 1930s

The Art of Dance - A small selection of dance cards from Seattle in the 1930s

Letters from Loveland - Just in time for Valentine's Day, a series of documenting a doomed love affair in Milwaukee in the 1920s.

Paul of Nazareth - A large series of 100 photos documenting life in an American town c.1947-c.1976.

Scrap Girls - A small NSFW show of 1950s/60s soft-core/cheesecake photos that were trimmed down to fit in a scrapbook.

In the Neighborhood - On the street in Summer of '68 in a Chicago neighborhood the counter-culture had yet to reach.

The Promised Land - A show of photographs from a student photographer documenting life in the blue-collar suburbs of L.A.

Bakersfield by Night - One night of lonely gas stations and hot demolition derby action in Bakersfield, CA. c.1950.

The Sweet Science - A small series of CYO/Golden Gloves boxing in Chicago c.1955.

51% of Everything - Scenes from a protest: It's 1970 and the ladies of NYC are taking it to the streets.

Fire - 30 years of Matchbook cover art from a collection I recently acquired.

Drink - A show of snapshot celebrating all things alcoholic.

A Brief History of Laughter - 75 years of American Laughter.

Square America is proud to present This is My Country: An Epic Survey, Rendered In Photographs, Home Movies, Audio Recordings, And Other Ephemera, Of Everyday Life In These United States And Of The Ways And Customs Of The American People c.1900-c.1976 (A Work In Progress)!! Clicking here will take you to a very tenative table of contents with links to over 40 new slideshows (and a few that may be familiar to long-time viewers)!! While it's a quixotic project that will probably never be finished, I should have another 80-100 slideshows posted in the next month or so- I've been posting links to new slideshows as I finish them via Facebook & Twitter. I'm adding new stuff almost daily (so much new content, in fact, that it'd just overwhelm this spiffy new front page- so hop on facebook or twitter to check them out).

Added 12/10! I was going to completely re-do my Square America Xmas Spectacular but ran out of steam after just one show (but it's a good one!): Behold Seasons Greetings: The Art of the Photo Christmas Card!
